Learn Baby Sign Language - Valentine

Valentine’s Day is almost here. With that in mind, I’d like to teach you a great song to sing with your students and one that will help you to learn baby sign language. It is a simple song that allows students to sing, sign, and interact with each other. You only need to sign one word during this song: Valentine. To do so, start with your hands open and palms facing toward you. Then, draw the outline of a heart starting at the top with your middle fingers.

The following are the lyrics, sung to the tune of “Do You Know the Muffin Man:”

Do you know my valentine?

My valentine my valentine

Do you know my valentine?

Her name is______________

At the end of the verse, say a student’s name to introduce them. This student will then sing the song and replace the name with another classmate. Continue this until each student gets a turn to sing and introduce one of their peers. They will have a lot of fun with this, while learning and practicing sign language.
