The More We Sign Together with Sign Language

Many of you already know and sing “The More We Sing Together” with your students. I’d like to suggest changing the song a bit and adding signs. Simply change the word “sing” to “sign” throughout the song. I usually sing this at the end of each class and think it’s a fun way to say goodbye while signing and learning.

The following are the words in the song that I suggest you sign:

More – Tap finger tips together

Sign – Put out pointer fingers and have them circle over one another toward you

Together – Place fists together, thumbs lay on top, and move arms in circle in front of you

Your – Point palm out towards other person

My – Rest palm/hand on chest

Friends – Link pointer fingers together one way and then the other

Happy – Brush up on chest with either one or both hands

Here are the lyrics to “The More We Sign Together:”

The more we sign together

Together, together

The more we sign together

The happier we’ll be

For your friends are my friends

And my friends are your friends

The more we sign together

The happier we’ll be

The lyrics “for your friends are my friends, and my friends are your friends” may be a bit fast, making it difficult for children to sign all of the words at first. If you want to make it easier, I suggest only signing “friends” to begin. Once your students become more familiar with the song and the signs, you can then add in the other words, as it will be easier for them at this point.
